Official: Leeds United sack Jesse Marsch following Forest defeat

Leeds United have sacked manager Jesse Marsch after their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, it has been confirmed, with the US coach leaving after just under a year in charge.

Marsch, who helped oversee their survival on the final day of the season last campaign, has struggled to turn around his side's poor form in recent weeks, with Leeds without a Premier League win since the 5th November, and currently sitting 17th, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

This was despite a record summer spend, which has been followed by a further 70m euros on Georginio Rutter and Weston McKennie this January, in a bid to avoid the drop and fill the gaps left in the squad by the departures of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the summer.

Their most recent defeat however, 1-0 at the hands of newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, proved a bridge too far for Marsch, who had recently taken on the not-too-endearing nickname 'yank Frank' from those at Elland Road.

"Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties", a statement read.

Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.

We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

Leeds United face Manchester United twice in the next seven days, and it is unclear just who will take to the dugout for these clashes, with Marsch's assistant coach Rene Maric also following him out of Elland Road.

As it stands, Marcelo Bielsa is the bookies favourite to make a shock return to Yorkshire, a year after being sacked.
